Urine 17-ketocorticosteroids

Urine 17-ketocorticosteroids are metabolites of adrenocortical hormones and androgens. The determination of urine 17-ketocorticosteroids (17-KS) has diagnostic significance for diseases related to adrenal dysfunction. Increases are seen in hyperadrenal cortex, anterior pituitary hyperfunction, testicular stromal cell tumor, hyperthyroidism, and after application of adrenocorticotropic hormones, androgens and corticosteroids. The reduction is seen in hypoadrenal function, anterior pituitary function, testicular function, and hypothyroidism.
