Plasma free hemoglobin
Plasma free hemoglobin refers to measuring the amount of hemoglobin in plasma. Under normal circumstances, the lifespan of red blood cells is 120 days. The aging red blood cells are destroyed in the spleen, decomposed into hemoglobin, and then gradually degraded into iron, globin, and bilirubin. Hemoglobin usually exists in red blood cells. When red blood cells are destroyed, such as hemolysis, hemoglobin is released into the blood, and free hemoglobin in the plasma increases. Determination of plasma free hemoglobin can reflect the destruction of red blood cells in patients with hemolytic anemia.
