Vitamin U
Vitamin U is iodomethylmethylthiobutine. It is found in green leafy vegetables such as cabbage, cabbage, cabbage, lettuce and alfalfa. It has a special smell and a salty taste. It is unstable in the light or in the air. Soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol and ether. The aqueous solution is acidic. It is mainly used to treat gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer. It can be prepared by the reaction of methionine and methyl iodide.
