Total serum complement

Total complement activity is based on complement's ability to lyse sheep red blood cells sensitized by anti-sheep erythrocyte antibodies (hemolysin). The degree of hemolysis is related to total complement activity, but is not linear. The measurement of total complement activity mainly reflects the activity of complement (C1-C9) after being activated by the traditional pathway. Changes in serum total complement activity have extremely important effects on the diagnosis and treatment of certain diseases.
