Cerebrospinal fluid cell count

Microscopic examination of cerebrospinal fluid is usually based on cell count and white blood cell classification. Cerebrospinal fluid contains no red blood cells, no white blood cells, or contains very small amounts of white blood cells. When there is a disease of the central nervous system, the number of cells in the cerebrospinal fluid increases, and the types of leukocytes increase. Therefore, microscopy of cerebrospinal fluid can reflect the different nature of the disease.
