Heterotopic renal vessels and accessory vessels
85% of the kidneys have a renal artery. According to the distribution of blood supply, the parenchyma of the kidney is divided into 5 segments: parietal segment, upper segment, middle segment, lower segment, and posterior segment. Each segment is supplied by a single blood vessel originating from the aorta. The main trunk of the renal artery is initially divided into two branches, the anterior branch supplies the upper, middle, and lower sections, and the posterior branch supplies the posterior section.
