Pediatric brain abscess
Brain abscess is a necrotizing pus cavity formed by purulent pathogens invading the brain tissue. It is a common type of focal purulent infection in the central nervous system. Although rare, it is very important in pediatrics because of diagnosis or treatment. Improper can lead to serious adverse consequences and even death. The incidence of this disease in China is about 2% to 8%. Due to different locations of the disease and patients suffering from different chronic infectious diseases, it is easy to misdiagnose clinically. Recent advances in diagnostic techniques such as CT and MRI have greatly increased awareness of such focal infections. Although the treatment of this disease is very difficult, a good prognosis may still be obtained after timely and appropriate treatment.
