Cane pneumoconiosis
Cane pneumoconiosis (bagassosis) is caused by repeated inhalation of a large amount of antigenic organic matter when processing moldy bagasse, mainly exogenous allergic alveolitis caused by thermophilic actinomycetes. The acute phase is characterized by systemic symptoms, positive serum specific antibodies, infiltration of alveolar and small airway wall lymphocytes, and sarcoidosis-like granulomas. The chronic phase is characterized by irreversible and progressive diffuse interstitial fibrosis.
