Inorganic alkali skin damage

The hydroxides of sodium, potassium, calcium, ammonium and barium are mostly strong bases. Because they have different stimulating effects, they can produce different lesions on the skin and mucous membranes. Among them, sodium hydroxide and calcium oxide (and calcium hydroxide) are more important and have a certain representativeness. Except that ammonium hydroxide easily releases ammonia, the rest are not volatile. Sodium carbonate and sodium fluoride are weak acid salts of alkali metals, and they also have alkali corrosion, so they are described together.
