Acute superior mesenteric artery embolism or thrombosis
Most of the emboli that cause embolism in the superior mesenteric artery originate from the heart. Patients often have a history of heart disease, such as heart valve disease, atrial fibrillation due to multiple causes, myocardial infarction, and bacterial endocarditis.
