Supraesophageal diverticulum
The diverticulum appearing within 10 cm of the distal end of the chest esophagus is called the epiphrenic diverticula of the esophagus. Most of the supracondylar diverticula are bulging diverticulum, which is formed by the protrusion or hernia of a weak part or defect area of the smooth muscle layer of the esophagus. The upper esophageal diverticulum is far less common than the zenker diverticulum, and it gradually develops from small to large, often related to dysfunction of esophageal motor.
