Banded keratopathy

Band shaped corneal degenration, also known as corneal band opacity and calcific band keratopathy, is a corneal lesion caused by calcium deposits under the corneal epithelium. Often divided into two types of primary and secondary. Banded corneal lesions can occur with and without calcium deposition. Banded corneal lesions without calcium deposition can occur with progressive corneal degeneration. In general, banded corneal degeneration refers to a corneal lesion with calcium deposits. Clinically, common corneal band degeneration is secondary to ocular or systemic lesions.
