Acquired hyperlipoproteinemia

Secondary or acquired hyperlipoproteinemias are changes in lipid metabolism caused by organ disease or drug response. They are much more numerous than primary familial hyperlipoproteinemia, most of which do not cause skin lesions. Eruptive xanthomas may occur rapidly only in clinically similar forms to hyperlipidemia type IIb or type IV. Inquire about the history in detail to rule out primary hyperlipoproteinemia.
