Hepatobiliary stones

Bile duct stones are stones that form inside and outside the liver and are the most common diseases of the biliary system. Stones that block bile ducts cause bile stasis, and secondary bacterial infections cause acute cholangitis. Repeated inflammation of the bile duct can cause local thickening of the tube wall or scarring stenosis, while inflammation and stenosis of the bile duct can promote stone formation.
