Mental disorders associated with parathyroid dysfunction
Parathyroid dysfunction includes hyperparathyroidism and hypoparathyroidism. Hyperparathyroidism can be divided into primary and secondary types. The primary is due to parathyroid swelling; the secondary is due to physical factors causing metabolic disorders and chronic hypocalcemia, which causes excessive parathyroid secretion. The occurrence of mental disorders is generally believed to be related to a significant increase in blood calcium. In addition, renal failure and circulatory dysfunction also play a role. Hypoparathyroidism mostly occurs after thyroid surgery; followed by parathyroidectomy; in addition, there is an unknown cause of so-called idiopathic hypoparathyroidism.
