Thyrotongue duct cyst and fistula
Thyroid-tongue duct cysts and fistulas are congenital abnormalities that are caused by incomplete degeneration of the thyroid-tongue ducts. Fistulas are formed after the cyst is ruptured due to infection or surgical incision. Most appear before the age of five. There are slightly more men than women. About 40% of cases are complicated by infection.
