Middle East Respiratory Syndrome
The MERS virus is a new type of coronavirus that has been named MERS (Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus). On May 23, 2013, the World Health Organization introduced the virus (formerly known as the "SARS-like virus"). The infection was named "Middle East Respiratory Syndrome". The MERS coronavirus was first detected in Saudi Arabia in September 2012. Most infected people will develop severe respiratory syndrome with acute renal failure. As of May 16, this year, a total of 1,142 cases of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome have been reported in more than 20 countries worldwide, with 465 deaths and a mortality rate of 40.7%.
