Pediatric hyperthyroidism
Hyperthyroidism (hyperthyroidism) is a clinical syndrome caused by excessive thyroid hormone secretion, often accompanied by goiter, exophthalmos, and increased basal metabolism. Hyperthyroidism in children is mainly seen in diffuse toxic goiter (Graves disease). Hyperthyroidism in children accounts for about 5% of all hyperthyroidism, more common in children of school age. About 2% of fetuses of pregnant women with Graves disease will develop hyperthyroidism after birth.
