Intraamniotic infectious syndrome (IAIS) refers to the general term for infections caused by pathogenic microorganisms entering the amniotic cavity during pregnancy and childbirth, including amniotic fluid, fetal membranes (chorion, amnion, and decidua), placenta, and even uterine infection .
