Cardiac block in the elderly

The cardiac conduction system is composed of sinoatrial node, atrioventricular node, atrioventricular tachycardia (His bundle), left and right bundle branches and their branches. It is responsible for the functions of cardiac pacing and conduction of impulses, and guarantees atrial and ventricular synergetic contraction. Impulses can block in any part of the heart's conduction system. If it occurs between the sinoatrial node and the atrium, it is called the sinoatrial block; between the atrium and the ventricle, it is called the atrioventricular block; it is located in the atrium and it is called the intraatrial block;
