Terrien limbal degeneration

Terriens Marginal Degeneration (TMD) is a special type of corneal limbal degeneration. It is rare and mainly manifests as chronic, bilateral corneal limbus with superficial neovascularization of corneal atrophy. The sulcus becomes thin, and eventually the cornea swells forward, perforates, and the iris prolapses, causing serious damage to the eyeballs. It was first reported by Trumpy as "corneal hyaline degeneration" in 1881, and Terrien described it in more detail in 1900, calling it "peripheral, asymmetric, dilated corneal atrophy". Since then, the disease has been reported in the literature, and clinical observations in recent years have learned more about it.
