Radiation cataract

Clinically, there is clear evidence that cataracts caused by radiation are called radiation cataract. The lens's equatorial subcapsular epithelial cells are very sensitive to ionizing radiation. Damaged epithelial cells can produce particulate-like substances that migrate from the periphery to the center under the capsule, especially at the posterior pole. The appearance of this particulate-like substance requires an incubation period of months or even years.
