Pediatric Merkel diverticulum
Meckel diverticulum, also called the distal ileum diverticulum, is a common gastrointestinal malformation. It is the distal ileum diverticulum formed by the incomplete yolk duct degeneration during embryonic development. Asymptomatic patients are often diagnosed because of complications in the diverticulum. When complications such as inflammation, necrotic perforation, intestinal obstruction, and bleeding occur, surgical abdomen is caused.
