Histoplasmosis
Histoplasmosis is a highly infectious fungal disease. It is often transmitted by the respiratory tract. It first invades the lungs and then through the skin and other mononuclear macrophage systems such as the liver and spleen. It can also invade the kidneys, central nervous system and other organs. China was first discovered in Guangzhou in 1955, and several cases were later discovered. The patients were all overseas Chinese returning from endemic areas. Men, women and children can develop the disease.
