Septic arthritis
Intra-articular infections caused by pyogenic bacteria are called suppurative arthritis. They are more common in children and are often a complication of sepsis. They can also be caused by surgical infections, traumatic joint infections, and joint firearm injuries. Intra-articular injections of steroids and other drugs are not aseptic as are prone to infection. The most commonly affected areas are the knee and hip joints, followed by the elbow, shoulder and ankle joints.
