Primary aldosteronism
Primary aldosteronism (primary aldosteronism, referred to as primary aldosteronism) is due to pathological changes in the adrenal cortex and excessive secretion of aldosterone, resulting in retention of water and sodium, increased blood volume, and inhibition of renin-angiotensin system activity. The clinical manifestations are syndromes characterized by hypertension and hypokalemia. Most are caused by adrenal aldosterone adenomas, and may also be idiopathic hyperaldosteronism.
