Pediatric intussusception
Intussusception refers to an acute abdomen that is common in infants and young children when the proximal intestine segment and its mesentery are sleeved into the distal intestinal cavity, causing intestinal obstruction. Intussusception is a common cause of pediatric intestinal obstruction, which mostly occurs in hospital children under 2 years of age. The most common is the insertion of the terminal ileum into the colon. The incidence is high in China, accounting for the first place in infants with intestinal obstruction.
