It is a severe damage to the glomerulus and alveolar wall basement membrane caused by anti-basement membrane antibodies. The clinical manifestations are pulmonary hemorrhage, aggressive glomerulonephritis and serum anti-glomerular basement membrane (GBM) antibody positive triad. Most patients progress rapidly and have a dangerous prognosis.
