Highly atrophic thymus
At the upper edge of the human sternum there is an organ called the thymus, weighing only 10 grams. Only T cells produced by the bone marrow enter the thymus with the blood, and under the influence of thymus hormones, about 5% of thymic cells eventually develop into mature T lymphocytes with immune function.
