Splenic abscess
Abscess of spleen is a rare disease. The spleen is a highly-selected filter and phagocytosis center for microorganisms in the blood. It has immunity against local infections and is generally not prone to infection. Since the application of antibiotics, spleen abscesses are more rare. The most common pathogens are staphylococci, streptococci, anaerobic bacteria, and aerobic gram-negative bacteria, including Salmonella; Candida often infects immunocompromised hosts.
