Esophageal obstruction
Negus (1950) believed that the etiology of pharyngeal esophageal diverticulum may be caused by anatomical weakness (area) of the cyclopharyngeal muscle and obstruction of the esophageal cavity at the distal end of the cyclopharyngeal muscle. Pharyngopharyngeal diverticulum is the most common esophageal diverticulum located near the back of the cyclopharyngeal muscle (Figure 2), or the posterior wall of the pharyngeal-esophageal junction above the circumpharyngeal muscle.
