Papillary muscle rupture
Papillary muscle rupture is a rare complication of heart rupture. According to the autopsy and pathology report of 107 patients with myocardial infarction in Beijing Fuwai Cardiovascular Hospital, the anterior papillary muscle and the posterior internal papillary muscle each accounted for 1 case, which was 1.9%, which was consistent with about 1% reported in the literature. This is mainly due to poor blood supply to the papillary muscles, chronic ischemia or small infarcts, and more fibrous scars, making it difficult to completely break. Most occur within one week after acute myocardial infarction.
