Corpus callosum dysplasia
The human brain is divided into left and right hemispheres. Between the left and right hemispheres, many nerve fibers are connected to connect the two. The largest bundle is called the corpus callosum. The corpus callosum begins to develop around the age of 12 weeks, and the fetus takes shape from 17 to 20 weeks. During this period, many factors can affect the development of the corpus callosum, and the result is the so-called "hypoplastic corpus callosum." The chances of developing corpus callosum dysplasia are very low among children who develop normally, but for children with developmental disabilities, the incidence can be as high as two in every 100 people.
