Cyst-like changes occur in tissues due to abnormalities in mucosal function and other factors. For example, cysts caused by infection stimuli (such as periodontal cysts that occur in the maxilla) are caused by cyst-like changes in root tip granulation tissue after infection or injury of the root of the tooth.
