Lateral hip swelling and tenderness
Swelling and tenderness on the lateral side of the hip is one of the clinical diagnostic criteria for intertrochanteric fractures. Femoral intertrochanteric fractures mostly occur at 66 to 76 years of age. The incidence is three times higher in women than in men. Griffin and Boyd's study of 300 cases of femoral intertrochanteric fractures shows that the mortality rate of patients within 3 months after injury is 16.7%, which is about twice the mortality rate of femoral neck fracture patients. The reason for such a high mortality rate is that the patient is older; the trauma that caused the fracture is heavier; the blood loss after the fracture is large; the treatment is relatively large. It can be seen that the intertrochanteric fracture is a more serious fracture.
