Acute appendicitis in pregnancy
In the second and third trimester of pregnancy, due to the enlargement of the uterus, the positions of the cecum and appendix shift upwards and backwards. At 3 months of pregnancy, the root of the appendix is about two horizontal fingers below the diaphragm; at 5 months, it is the height of the iliac crest. 8 At two months, it rises to the two horizontal fingers on the epiphysis; it returns to its original position 10 days after delivery. During this position shift, the appendix also rotates, so acute appendicitis during pregnancy has a special manifestation.
