Achilles tendon bursitis

Inflammation of the bursa that occurs above the Achilles tendon is the result of abnormal heel position and function. Posterior Achilles tendon bursitis is most common in young women, but it can also occur in men. Because the heel is easily moved in a valgus position throughout the pace cycle, the soft tissue between the outer lateral surface of the calcaneus and the upper is excessively compressed (a hard cocoon at the heel). This side of the calcaneus becomes raised, easily accessible, and is often mistaken for exogenous bone warts.
