Free glycerol

45% of fatty acids in blood are formed by esterification with glycerol. The serum free glycerol content is used to reflect whether the body has a tendency to immune diseases. Elevations are seen in hyperthyroidism, chronic renal failure, diabetes, cirrhosis, hyperlipidemia, and obesity.
