Elbow resection

Elbow joint resection is to remove the component bones of the elbow joint (the lower end of the humerus and the radius and the upper end of the ulna) to form a false joint, in order to remove the lesion and improve joint function. Elbow resection is simple, safe, and satisfactory. It can retain a large degree of joint mobility and has no complications after prosthetic replacement. Although the joint is not very stable after the resection, the elbow is not a weight-bearing joint, which has no great impact, only the strength is poor, and the strength of lifting heavy objects is limited. After elbow resection, it is not as stable as after arthroplasty or artificial joint replacement, and it is not as powerful as after fusion. Therefore, it must be carefully determined according to the age and occupation of the patient before surgery. Elbow arthrotomy is generally suitable for lighter, older patients. The epiphysis of children is not closed, it is not appropriate to perform this operation, so as not to affect the development of upper limbs.
