General thymectomy
A surgical treatment of some patients with myasthenia gravis by removing the thymus. The thymus is the central target organ and plays an important role in the pathogenesis of myasthenia gravis. Various pathogenic factors such as anti-acetylcholine receptor antibodies in blood, complement C3, killer T cells and lymphokines, most of the helper T cells are in the thymus The initiating antigen (ie, muscle-like cells) that is internally synthesized or sensitized in the thymus, which can cause myasthenia gravis, is also present in the thymus. General thymectomy is a surgical treatment for myasthenia gravis.
