Thoracic duct ligation

The upper and lower sections of the thoracic duct are attached to the mediastinal pleura. Therefore, thoracic duct injury with mediastinal pleura damage can cause left chylothorax or right chylothorax. A chest catheter can prevent chylothorax after surgery. In 1948, Lamp-son comprehensively reported the successful experience of thoracic duct ligation in the treatment of chylothorax, which greatly improved the treatment effect of chylothorax and reduced its mortality to about 10%.
