Radical thyroid cancer
Radical thyroidectomy is an extensive resection of patients with thyroid malignant tumors on the affected thyroid gland (including the thyroid isthmus and the large part of the contralateral thyroid) and lymph nodes in the neck area. In addition to the treatment of the thyroid itself, the scope of surgery includes the removal of thyroid lymph nodes (pre-laryngeal, pre-tracheal, paratracheal, and recurrent laryngeal lymph nodes), sternocleidomastoid muscle, internal jugular vein, and upper, middle, and lower jugular veins. Three groups of lymph nodes were resected together, and the posterior cervical triangle (many authors routinely removed the accessory nerves) and the submandibular and subcondylar triangles were removed. If necessary, it should also be removed before the upper mediastinum. What's more, only the extremely thin skin flaps remain in front of the neck and the subcutaneous tissues and platysma are removed.
