C4 is a & beta; globulin, which consists of 3 polypeptide chains, such as & alpha ;, & beta; and & gamma ;, and is synthesized in liver, lymphoid tissue, bone marrow, peritoneal macrophages, monocytes and other tissues. C4 is involved in the classical activation of complement.
