Tear β2-microglobulin

β2-MG is produced by B lymphocytes and T lymphocytes, which may be related to humoral immune function. When the histocompatibility complex (MHC) is transported to the cell surface and expressed by the cell, β2-MG must be present. Β2-MG of the tear fluid is mainly produced by the lacrimal glands and conjunctival lymphocytes, and is excreted from the palpebral fissure and lacrimal duct with the tear fluid.
