Salivary testosterone
Testosterone is the main androgen in the human body. About 95% of adult male plasma testosterone comes from testicular mesenchymal cells, and a small part comes from adrenal cortex and extra-glandular transformation. Women mainly come from the adrenal cortex, and the ovaries secrete a small amount. Most of testosterone in plasma binds to & beta; globulin of testosterone binding protein, and only a small amount is in a free state to exert physiological effects. Testosterone can promote the synthesis of protein and bone matrix and increase the production of erythropoietin. The method for measuring saliva testosterone is roughly the same as the method for measuring plasma testosterone.
