Serum interleukin 1

Interleukin 1 is a cytokine produced by monocytes, endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and other cell types in response to infection. There are two types of IL-1α and IL-1β, both of which bind to the same receptor of the immunoglobulin superfamily. It can stimulate the production of cytokines such as colony-stimulating factor and platelet growth factor and make T cells produce interleukin-2, which plays a role in immune response and tissue repair. Interleukin 1 exists in the forms IL-1α and IL-1β.
