Whole blood lactic acid

Lactic acid is a metabolite of anaerobic oxidation (glycolysis) of sugar. Lactic acid is produced in bones, muscles, brain and red blood cells. Excreted by the kidney after metabolism by the liver. Blood lactate measurement can reflect tissue oxygen supply and metabolic status and insufficient perfusion. Increased lactic acid levels can be seen in a variety of clinical diseases.
