Buffer base

Buffer base (BB) is the sum of buffering bases in the blood, including HCO3-, HPO4-, hemoglobin, and plasma proteins. BB can reflect the body's total buffering capacity against acid-base disturbances. It is not affected by changes in breathing and carbon dioxide.
