Placental lactogen
Placental lactogen is synthesized by placental syncytiotrophoblasts and is a single-chain polypeptide hormone containing no sugar molecules. Placental lactogen can be measured from the blood of pregnant women from 5 weeks of pregnancy. As the pregnancy progresses, the level of placental lactogen increases gradually, reaching a peak at 39-40 weeks of pregnancy, and it decreases rapidly after delivery.
