Liver size

Liver size test is an auxiliary test method used to check whether the size of the abdominal liver is normal. The liver of a normal adult is generally inaccessible under the costal margin, but those with a thin, elongated abdominal wall can touch the lower margin of the liver under the costal arch during deep inhalation, but within 1 cm. Under the xiphoid process, the lower hepatic margin can be touched, mostly within 3cm, but the elongated body with a sharp upper abdominal angle can reach 5cm below the root of the xiphoid process. If it exceeds the above criteria, it is hepatomegaly or liver down. At this time, the upper hepatic boundary can be identified by percussion method. If the upper hepatic boundary is also lowered, and the upper and lower diameters of the liver are normal (approximately 9 to 11 cm in adults), then the liver is moved downward; if the upper hepatic boundary is normal or elevated, the liver is suggested Swelling.
